On the day of the OSE girls departure for America, they
gathered on the steps of the OSE home in Haute Vienne, France. Eve's older sister,
Ruth, is on front step (wearing glasses). Eve's youngest sister, Lea, age 4 1/2,
dashed to the front before the photo was snapped, although she did not go with them to New
York. Eve is behind Lea. Their mother, Mia, is in back of Eve, and her father, Sal,
wearing a French beret, is in second row, far left. June 1941 |

Eve, age 13 (left) with her sister Ruth, age 14. When
they mailed this photo to their parents in Limoges, France after the city was liberated,
Mia was unprepared for the change in her daughters and showed it to everyone, exclaiming,
"Look at my beautiful grown-up girls." Washington Heights, New York, 1944 |
